john howland... i miss your grinch does game style.

had i been living in orange county this summer, today would have been the last normal day of camp mudhole.  i probably would have been dreading tomorrow night because it would be the camp sleepover for the older kids.  which means i would have spent thursday night OD-ing on sugar in an attempt not to fall asleep, lest thirteen-year-old boys and girls climb into sleep bags with one another. 

 

but for now, in this exact moment, i would most likely have been watching/judging the camp talent show.  and the campers' definition of talent is different than any other group of kids i have ever met.  it was part of their dirty charm.

 

i wonder what it would have been like there this summer, although after having done it for six years, i can imagine quite well.  it would have been "rip my hair out-i can't believe you just did that-you are a pain in my ass-and i love you" good times.  somehow it's not summer without the kids at camp mudhole.  and never did i imagine i would say that.

 

instead i sit here, on the 31st floor of some towering building on park ave, bored.

I'm with ya, sister. Never thought I'd be missing my old life back in the 'burbs. Are you going to get to go to the Great New York State Fair this year? ;)

i think i just miss being outside instead of cooped up all day. you have wonky and mendola, MnM, and i have satan. it's time for REAL fun jobs.

Omg, you've never been to the Fair? I thought everyone in NY went to the thing. I guess not. Well, it's this big, giant, two week fiasco in Syracuse with food and games and concerts and a midway and hicks, hicks, hicks. Gosh, they always say it attracts people from all over the state... Maybe Syracuse is full of more hicks than I thought...

and damn, i can't believe i know people from the syracuse area and they held out on me. i've been missing out! i love hicks. they are so dead sexy and they have the best beer. man. i also love fried dough and concert and rides.

'cuse cannot be more full of hicks than you thought, it's simple math. multiply the population of onondaga county by the number 1. And there you have it, the exact number of hicks. However, i will say one thing for "the fair" my decades of consecutive visits have left me with no respect for county fairs, so i don't go, thereby hick overdose has lead to hick avoidance.

we all secretly love camp because it means we get paid to act like kids.

oh how i understand you. then again, i always do. you can always come volunteer in my or julz' classroom every time you miss the kiddies. or just go have some kids of your own...

oh right. you want me to have your children for you. how silly of me.

dios mios. i will come to your classrooms and wreck havoc. ha. i think i miss the particular campers. after six years, there are those you know so well. i think it's a comfort thing for me. not that i am not comfortable here, but my summers used to be defined by pre-working at camp weeks, the weeks of camp, and the remaining 2 weeks after camp when summer was winding down. now it's just all the same, day after day, week after week.


and yes you are having my kids. never forget!
